More Demon's Souls, it might be true love

So today I'm gonna talk about Demon's Souls more and I'm gonna pick up where I left off from yesterday. Look up to the previous post if you need to catch up. So I just defeated the first boss and I have my body back which is awesome. So this is where you officially can start doing some multi player. In the room where you fight the first boss you can see another hallway that keeps going and that's the next part of the first level. So the whole first world is all connected without loading which I think is absolutely awesome! It's at this point that I noticed blue writing on the floor and when you examine it you get the option to summon another player to your world. So I go ahead and click on the writing and get another person in my world. This kinda reminds me of Phantasy Star Online a little bit. I used to play a ton of Phantasy Star Online on the Dreamcast when that came out. I really loved that game but let's get back on track with Demon's Souls.

So the other person and I are killing stuff for a little while and then I suddenly see the message that a Dark Phantom has entered my world. I just kinda said "That is probably bad" since the text was all red. Shortly after that I saw a red silhouette of another player run toward me and just utterly murdered me. So I died and I was in spirit form after that (you don't stay alive very long it seems in this game). The interesting thing to know is that the person that was with me and the person that was against me are near my level range. The game matches people with others in the same soul level range as you. So I'm assuming that you don't even see the summon option for people that are out of your level range. So once I live again I started making a habit of putting the blue eye stone down near the entrance. When I finally got summoned into another player's world we  made it all the way to the boss and sadly didn't kill it. But when you die in another person's world you don't lose any souls. You can't pick up items in their world but you still get souls. More after the break.

So finally after many tries I finally help someone kill the boss and get my body back. Once I got my body back I found 2 people who wanted to help and summoned them to my world. We took down the boss then I tried to progress further. When I went to the mist gate I got a message saying that I needed to kill a arch-demon before I could progress. So I go back to the Nexus and try out stage 2 which takes place in a mine. Right at the start I found a someone to summon and off I went into a strange new level. It is a completely different experience when you have no clue where you are going but someone else does. I had no clue where I was and where I was going but it was super fun! We get to the boss room on the first attempt and find someone else along the way to summon. I went through the mist and it was a huge spider that shot fireballs at me! We fought it for a while but since I hadn't done this before I died rather unceremoniously and then lost my body again. This went on for a while and that's basically where I am now. I decided to try out a different starting class and made a new character who I named "Fred". I'm actually having even more fun as this new guy (he has bright red hair and that makes me happy).

He started out as royalty and got a kickass mana regen ring which only royalty characters get. I'm using more spells as this guy and it seems to suit me rather well. I think I need to try to get a black eye stone which will allow me to invade other people's worlds. I haven't tried being a bad phantom yet but it seems like it could be quite fun. If you end up killing a blue phantom that is helping the person who is alive you get all of their souls and if you kill the alive player you get brought back to life. But the downside is that if you die from a player you  lose half of your souls and if you get killed by the environment you lose a soul level. When I do this I gotta make sure that I don't fall off of a cliff or anything because that would suck! I'm sure I will write more about this wonderful game in the future when I get farther. I have been wanting a multiplayer RPG that isn't a MMO for a while now and Castlevania HD has been filling that rather nicely. But Demon's Souls just does everything so right with the seamless online features and crazy huge levels. I hate looking for other players through a typical matchmaking system so this game is very right for me.

A good side effect from this game is that I'm actually using my Demon's Souls machine (PlayStation 3). I haven't really turned it on much in the last few months because there hasn't been much that I have wanted to play on it. Since I have started this game though I've been thinking about the PS3 a lot more and I might actually play some more games on it. Exclusive PS3 games have a completely different look and feel than a 360 game. I actually think that the PS3 has some better visuals and I do really like the Blu-Ray format since it holds so much data. Heavy Rain might deserve another play through in the near future as well. Something about a interactive movie is really cool to me (which is good since that is what Heavy Rain is). Maybe I should talk about that game some since I have gone through it a few times. Anyway that will have to be a topic for another day so until then have fun and play some games!
