Upon having a craving for a Japanese style RPG I started up
Lost Odyssey
again. My old save was lost in the horrible USB memory stick incident earlier this year. I decided that I wanted to start using a USB memory stick instead of my memory card for my 360. I got a little one that was 2GB, I moved all my files over to it and then a few days later I took it out of the system. When I did that apparently something went horribly wrong and everything was gone. All my saves and all my hard work on my game progression was completely gone. Turns out this was kinda a good thing since I have ended up playing games again after this had happened. But back to Lost Odyssey I was on the 4th disc of the game which is near the end I believe when my save was gone. So now I'm back at the start of the game and I'm excited about playing it again.
There is something special about a decent Japanese RPG. Recently there haven't really been too many good ones since the system for JRPGs is kinda tired. I mean even Final Fantasy has drastically changed over the years but because of that I have lost interest in that series. But a lot about Lost Odyssey is very much like a JRPG from the early PS2 days, It has a great old school type feel to it (it's weird to think that the PS2 is old now). Though what I really long for is a game like
Chrono Trigger
or
Final Fantasy VII
to be revamped with updated graphics but the same gameplay system. I don't want them to muck with the systems of the games but I would love to see them updated in regards to graphics. Another game that kinda scratches that specific itch is
Dragon Quest VIII
. The Dragon Quest games haven't really changed much over the years and I don't think that is a bad thing by any means. More after the break.
Lost Odyssey is about a group of immortals that are on a mission to defeat another immortal (that is an oversimplification). There is some political stuff mixed in there as well but the part of the game that really shines is interestingly enough the 1,000 years of dreams segments of the game. These segments are just text with sound effects and backgrounds but they are usually really amazing stories. The stories in these segments are memories from the main character whose name is Kaim Argonar. For example the most recent story that I have encountered in the game is about Kaim coming to a town on the day of a festival. The festival is to celebrate the town surviving a earthquake and it goes into how Kaim used to live there with his wife and daughter about 200 years ago. They went to bed and a earthquake happens and both of them die. A lot of these stories make is seem like immortality would really suck due to everyone dying around you. Kinda a downer but really interesting none the less.
An interesting thing about the game is how the experience system works. There is only ever 100 experience points until the next level. When you are in any given area you will level quickly until you get to the level that the designers want you to be at. After that you will only be given a small amount of experience making grinding possible but not needed. So for any given boss battle you will be at the correct level which I find kinda neat actually. But overall I remember the game being really cool and as I said earlier on I'm excited about playing it again. I have been playing more Castlevania HD (yet again) and now I'm playing as Soma more. It's kinda neat to have all the different abilities, Soma gets abilities based on souls from enemies. The more souls he gets the more powerful the spell is. The game is fun as always and it's usually pretty easy to get into a multi player game which is always a good thing.
I think I'm gonna get more into
Super Street Fighter 4
again. I think that I should be playing the game more and I feel like my Ibuki is weak. I was playing it a bit with a friend over the weekend and it was fantastically fun to spar on that game. The think I need to work on more is defense in general. The problem with playing that game online is that most of the community is better than me which means I lose a lot. I don't think that's a real bad thing but I do have a tendency of getting a little angry after getting stomped a lot. I know that the only way to get better is to get out there and try so I think I might get back into that and try to curb the anger. Maybe this weekend I will play it more which is always fun!
Red Dead Redemption
will be getting a zombie DLC soon and I'm been thinking about that a bit recently. It comes out next week and makes the Red Dead Redemption world filled with zombies apparently. I am oddly intrigued about this and I'm considering getting this because zombies in the old west sounds kinda neat in my opinion. I'm not sure if this is multi player only or what but there are undead animals in it as well. I'll get back to that more if I decide to download it. What do you all think about that DLC? Is anyone gonna pick that up or are you all tired of zombies by now? That's all that I can think of right now, more to come soon!
